After the last ups on drops article there were some nice examples of different options from the last drop on Seu in the 2019 World Championships. Below is some video to watch and some splits/notes taken. Have a watch and then we will go into more detail Starting off everyone was lined up on the down 21. We can then see from the two screenshots below that Bozic by fakie sweeping under gate 22 is able to take a shorter line (see fakie sweep article HERE) and this gets to the diagonal of the drop quicker. Joly and Thomas turn though or after on 22 creating a longer line. This longer line means they can have set up the boat to drive in on there right (upstream) blade. The fakie sweep by Bozic put him more ontop of the up in order to jump. The ontop line from Bozic them means he puts his bows around on gate 23. Opposed to Joly and Thomas who put there bows in above. We can see this below. Summery and Other notes
All this combines ups on drops/line choices and stagger options together. The choice as a lefty to fakie brings you ontop of the up meaning its easier to jump in. Putting the bows around can carry speed and with less swing the boat is tracking better on the x bow out of the up. For a righty time is potentially lost taking a longer line around 22, but provides a quicker up. Gate 22 also has a good backflow to the eddy so speed can be gained by pushing in around and deeper. Overall it as for all moves, the the choice of option you take and the execution of the option is key.
