Answer - Think about
What the water is doing - The action of the boat coming off the stopper means the boat has Swing upstream (see article on this HERE) This is counted by using the upstream blade as you are doing. The key is to keep driving on the upstream blade until you have cleared the end of the stopper and are deep into the eddy. Where you are looking - Keep looking at the gate. Its easy to look down at the bows or where the boats are going., but if we can focus on the gate, and maybe more at the far pole of the up, then that is often where we will end up. This is a common move at Prague, looking back at previous Prague races ( a lot on youtube) I have found some video shown below We can see how Jezek pushes to the back of the up - He won this world cup. This move is also very similar to the plughole at HPP so the same concepts would apply - Watch people on this, a lot have the same problem, all about reducing/controlling swing. |

I have video from this angle too. See video below These 3 screenshots I think tell a story
Up in general looks solid. Just a few points to help.
The 1st Screenshot shows good preturn coming into the upstream, but I have a little more. Bows under outside pole The 2nd screenshot shows a bit point. Look at your hips and that they are below the gateline. (look at gap between pole and hips) The 3rd screenshot shows because your hips are lower, You have had to travel further and the turn was more in 2 stages, both mean a slower up. How to get your hips higher into the up? Do a reverse? by doing a good reverse up your hips are higher - see article HERE Do more of a J line in? See what this does to the hips and your bows in relation to the outside pole 1st screenshot looks like I have my offside edge on earlier - See up progressions HERE and read other upstream articles to go into more depth. This angle of video is good to show hip movement and if you are slipping in your ups. |
